Tommy West Managing Partner
Tommy is a published author, licensed attorney, serial entrepreneur, exit strategy consultant, and M&A advisor. Having launched a dozen business by age 30 and having gone through the M&A process personally, Tommy brings a unique set of skills and experience to our clients.
After selling his first few businesses when he was younger, Tommy realized that the business brokerage and M&A system was broken . . . even as a licensed business attorney and experienced business owner, he struggled to get that first deal done. He knew there must be a better way . . . that's why he teamed up with Ben Brickweg to create the SmartExit System.
Tommy leads the M&A team for Sagewood and his client base is mostly focused on the outdoors industry and resort markets. Tommy holds Attorney and Brokerage licenses, and is a Certified Business Valuation Specialist and Certified Value Builder. Tommy is an avid mountain biker, skier, and paddle-boarder, father of 3, and spends most of his time in Steamboat, Colorado.
Ben Brickweg Founding Partner
Ben has an MBA in marketing, is a recovering attorney (but he hopes you won’t hold that against him), and a published author. Most importantly, in the past 15 years, Ben has guided over 100 business owners through successful exits.
As the Founding Partner of Sagewood, Ben leads client development initiatives and works directly with clients in the outdoors industry, resort & mountain town markets, and energy services segment.
A serial entrepreneur himself, Ben has seen the good, the bad and the ugly of M&A and exit strategy. Ben’s know-how includes navigating the routine snarls of valuation, transaction structures, family/employee transitions, due diligence, distressed company situations, and complex negotiations. Any concerns about the process involved in a transaction are met with a uniquely practical, sensible approach that is tailored to meet both buyers’ and sellers’ needs.
